While actively phasing out outdated coal production capacity, the coal industry is also focusing on promoting mergers and acquisitions among coal enterprises, facilitating capacity reduction and replacement, accelerating the release of high-quality production capacity, and optimizing the coal production structure—ultimately enhancing the overall quality of coal supply. In 2017, China's raw coal output experienced a recovery-driven growth for the first time since 2014, reaching 3.52 billion tons, an increase of 110 million tons, or 3.3%, compared to the previous year.

Moreover, coal production has significantly increased this year. According to the National Bureau of Statistics Data From January to April, China’s raw coal production reached 1.1 billion tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 3.8%. Meanwhile, the share of output from China’s key coal-producing regions continued to rise. According to the latest data, the three major coal-producing areas—Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia—accounted for 740 million tons of raw coal production during this period, making up 67.5% of the national total—up by 1.0 percentage point compared to the same period last year. It is reported that this year, China plans to coordinate efforts across its key coal-producing regions and major coal enterprises, focusing on boosting capacity utilization while prioritizing safety measures to maximize output. In particular, authorities are urging the Shanxi-Shaanxi-Mongolia region to strive for an additional daily production increase of more than 300,000 tons.
