    National Bureau of Statistics: Coal imports dropped significantly in April, while crude oil imports hit a new record high.

    The National Bureau of Statistics reported that in April, production of raw coal, natural gas, and electricity by industrial enterprises above a designated size accelerated, while crude oil production remained stable, with crude oil processing volumes growing at a notably faster pace. In April, mainland China’s raw coal output rose 4.1% year-on-year, accelerating by 2.8 percentage points compared to the previous month. From January to April, total raw coal production reached 1.1 billion tons, representing a 3.8% increase over the same period last year. Meanwhile, coal imports saw a significant decline: In April, imports totaled 22.28 million tons, down 10.1% year-on-year. However, from January to April, coal imports still climbed by 9.3% to 97.68 million tons. As of the end of April, the benchmark price for Qinhuangdao 5,500 kcal coal stood at 587 yuan per ton.

    In April, China's raw coal production increased by 4.1% year-on-year, accelerating by 2.8 percentage points compared to the previous month. From January to April, total raw coal output reached 1.1 billion tons, representing a 3.8% rise over the same period last year. Meanwhile, coal imports saw a significant decline: in April, imports fell by 10.1% year-on-year to 22.28 million tons. For the first four months of the year, however, coal imports still grew by 9.3%, totaling 97.68 million tons. As of the end of April, the benchmark price for Qinhuangdao 5,500 kcal coal stood at 587 RMB per ton (the same applies below), down 20 RMB from the end of March. Prices for 5,000 kcal coal dropped by 35 RMB to 529 RMB per ton, while 4,500 kcal coal prices fell by 34 RMB to 457 RMB per ton.

    In April, crude oil production reached 15.51 million tons, declining 2.3% year-on-year—the drop widened by 0.1 percentage point compared to the previous month. Average daily output stood at 517,000 tons, up 20,000 tons from the prior month. From January to April, total crude oil production amounted to 62.25 million tons, a 2.1% decrease compared to the same period last year—this decline deepened by an additional 0.1 percentage point from January to March. Meanwhile, crude oil imports surged significantly in April, reaching 39.46 million tons, marking a 14.7% increase year-on-year. This growth rate was 14.1 percentage points faster than the previous month. Daily import volumes also hit a new record high, averaging 1.315 million tons per day. For the first four months of the year, China imported 150 million tons of crude oil, representing an 8.9% rise compared to the same period last year.

    In April, crude oil processing reached 49.58 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 11.5%—a pace 3.2 percentage points faster than the previous month. Daily average processing stood at 1.653 million tons, down 0.09 million tons from the prior month. From January to April, total crude oil processing amounted to 200 million tons, up 9.1% year-on-year—a growth rate that accelerated by 1.6 percentage points compared to the January-March period. Among key refined petroleum products, gasoline production rose by 7.2% year-on-year, kerosene surged by 12.8%, and diesel output increased by 2.2%. Notably, the growth rates for these fuels quickened by 1.4, 1.9, and 0.2 percentage points, respectively, compared to the previous quarter.

    In April, natural gas production in mainland China remained robust, reaching 12.89 billion cubic meters—up 6.3% year-on-year, a growth rate that accelerated by 5.9 percentage points compared to the previous month. Daily output averaged 430 million cubic meters, slightly down by 10 million cubic meters from the prior month. From January to April, total natural gas production stood at 52.63 billion cubic meters, representing a 4.0% increase compared to the same period last year—a pace that picked up by 0.7 percentage points from January to March.
